The silver Somali Elephant coin is the next instalment of a series created in 1999 called the Somali Elephant. What is more, African Wildlife: Somali Elephant coins that were produced after 2004 act as legal tender and are guaranteed by the Somali government as to the legality, purity of the bullion and origin of the metal. The Averse depicts the Somali coat of arms, two leopards supporting a shield with a star, along with information on the year of mintage and the denomination of the coin.
The Rewers shows fighting male elephants against a background of the African steppe.
