The limited edition Matariki 1 ounce Gold 2022 Proof coin is a piece that refers to the New Zealand holiday, where the Matariki star cluster rises up. The symbolism of the holiday is to remember those who have passed away.
The gold coin was struck from pure Au bullion.9999, with a weight of 1 troy ounce and a diameter of 40 mm. It is the responsibility of the B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH, with the minting done on behalf of the New Zealand Post.
The mintage of the gold coin is only 150 pieces, where the whole coin comes in an elegant case with an accompanying certificate of authenticity.
Obverse depicts Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank- Broadley. In addition, the obverse features information about the issuer's country, date of issue, weight and purity of the bullion.
Reverse the coin depicts Tāwhirimātea, the inscription "TEKAU TARA", "MATARIKI". On the reverse side there is also information about the face value of the coin. The designer of the reverse was Tolaga Bay.
