Perth Mint: Lunar III - Year of the Dragon coloured 1/10 oz Gold 2024 is the fifth release of the Lunar III series. The previous coins in the series were the Year of the Mouse 2020, the Year of the Buffalo 2021 and the Year of the Tiger 2022, the Year of the Rabbit 2023. The lunar series refers to 12 animals that are representatives of the Chinese lunar calendar. The year 2024 belongs to the dragon and in Chinese mythology it is a majestic beast that inhabits rivers, lakes, oceans and wanders in the sky. The Chinese zodiac sign of the Dragon falls in the years: 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024.
The coin was minted in Au.9999 gold, weighing 1/10 troy ounce and measuring 16.6 mm in diameter. The renowned producer of precious metals - The Perth Mint - is responsible for issuing the currency. The currency is guaranteed by the Australian government as to the legality and origin of the metal, and is also a legal tender in the issuer's country.
Obverse presents the image of Queen Elizabeth II along with the dates of Her Majesty's reign, information about the issuing country, weight, purity of the metal and the nominal value of the asset.
Reverse shows a colored dragon. Additionally, on the reverse there is the inscription "DRAGON 2024" and an engraved letter and number - "P125" marking the 125th anniversary of the establishment of The Perth Mint.
