The obverse of the coin is decorated with the Niue coat of arms and a dinosaur skeleton, the inscription "PREHISTORIC WORLD" and the denomination and year of the coin. The Rewers depicts a coloured Archaeopteryx along with other dinosaurs. The reverse bears the inscription 'ARCHAEOPTERYX'.
