The Perth Mint Coin: Lunar III - Year of the Dragon "Golden Dragon" coloured 1 oz Silver 2024 is another piece in the Lunar III series. The previous coins in the series were the Year of the Mouse 2020, the Year of the Buffalo 2021 and the Year of the Tiger 2022, Year of the Rabbit 2023. The lunar series refers to the 12 animals that represent the Chinese lunar calendar. The Year of the Dragon 2024 belongs to the dragon and, in Chinese mythology, is a majestic beast that inhabits rivers, lakes and oceans and roams the sky. The Chinese zodiac sign of the dragon falls in the years: 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024.
The coin is minted in pure Ag.9999 sterling silver, weighing 1 troy ounce and with a diameter of 40.9 mm The mintage of the coin is 200,000 pieces.
The world-renowned precious metals producer, The Perth Mint, is responsible for issuing the coins. In addition, the Year of the Dragon 2024 is guaranteed by the Australian Government and is full legal tender in the issuing country.
The Averse of the Year of the Dragon silver coin is decorated with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. The whole is surrounded by the inscription "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and information about the face value, weight and bullion proof.
Rewers depict a coloured dragon. On the reverse, there is also the inscription "DRAGON 2024". Designer Ing Ing Jong is responsible for this year's reverse image.
