The New Zealand Collector's Set of 6 Coins: Currency 2024 Proof is a unique product that showcases the circulating coin versions of New Zealand.
The set includes two exclusive 1-dollar silver proof coins struck in pure Ag.999 bullion weighing 1/2 troy ounce, 30mm in diameter, designed by Helen Perkins, Wellington, which depict :
-Dark Sky - the pristine, starry skies visible above New Zealand's Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve. Efforts to protect the nocturnal landscape have made this region one of the best places for stargazing in New Zealand and
-Light Sky - illustrates the Australian aurora, or Southern Lights, visible on the southern horizon. The colourful bands of aurora, characteristic of regions close to the South Pole, are captured in a spectacular way, capturing the magic of natural light phenomena, produced by BH Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH, on behalf of the New Zealand Post.
The other coins are minted in copper-nickel alloy and brass, to proof standard. The coins have denominations - 2 Dollar, 1 Dollar, 50 Cent, 20 Cent, 10 Cent. In order of highest face value, the products have weights and diameters: 11.25 g and 26.50 mm, 8.60 g and 23.00 mm, 5.60 g and 24.74 mm, 4.45 g and 21.75 mm, 3.70 g and 20.50 mm.
The Royal Dutch Mint is responsible for the limited issue of the set to 750 pieces. The product is minted on behalf of New Zealand Post. The coin comes in exclusive packaging with a certificate of authenticity.
The obverse shows the likeness of King Charles III of Great Britain , the inscription "CHARLES III", NEW ZEALAND" and the denomination, purity of bullion, weight and year.
The reverses feature coloured contrasting night skies - Wairarapa Dark Sky and Southern Lights.The reverse also features the face value of the coin and the inscriptions "SOUTHERN LIGHTS AURORA AUSTRALIS", "WAIRARAPA DARK SKY RESERVE", a white heron -The kōtuku, kiwi, Mount Taranaki, a sculpture depicting an 18th century Maori leader called "Pūkākī", a carved Maori mask or "kōruru" with Maori rafter patterns..
