United Kingdom: Celebration Sovereign - The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles 2023 (Struck 6 May 2023)
The Gold Sovereign is a popular bullion coin minted by the excellent British mint, The Royal Mint. This unique value commemorates the first British coronation in the 21st century. - Charles III. The monarch was born on November 14, 1948 and comes from the Windsor dynasty. He is the first-born son of Queen Elizabeth II, who was his predecessor. The ceremony will be held at Westminster Abbey. The minting date of 1,250 pieces falls on the coronation day - May 6, 2023.
The sovereign of 2023 is minted from Au bullion sample.916.7, in 22K gold, 22.05 mm in diameter, weighing 7.988 grams. Each coin in the historic series has an admixture of copper, so it remains highly resistant to scratches and damage. In addition, all Sovereigns have a guarantee from the UK government.
Obverse shows the likeness of King Charles III of Great Britain wearing a crown, the inscription "CHARLES III∙DEI∙GRA∙REX∙FID∙DEF", designed by Martin Jennings.
Reverse depicts the scene of the slaying of the dragon by Saint George. The bottom of the gold coin also shows the date of issue. The reverse was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci.
