The obverse of the gold coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian 'a, and information on the face value of the coin. The Rewers shows the head of an adult koala. The reverse features the weight, purity and year of production and the inscription 'AUSTRALIAN KOALA', as well as the letter 'P', which indicates that the Perth Mint is the producer of the coin. Ing Ing Jong is responsible for this year's reverse design.
