This exceptional set references the biblical story of the prophet Jonah, who was sent by God to warn the people of Nineveh about their impending destruction. The story recounts his attempt to flee, a storm, his being swallowed by a great fish, and his prayer and redemption that ultimately saved the city.

Obverse: The obverse of each coin features the inscription *“Jonah in the belly of the fish, Jonah 1:17”* in Hebrew and English. It also includes the denomination (*1, 2, or 10 New Sheqel*) and the year of issue (*5771/2010*). The obverse also bears the word *“Israel”* in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, along with the Israeli state emblem at the top. An additional detail is the mint mark – the Star of David or the Hebrew letter "מ".
Reverse: The reverse presents an artistic depiction of Jonah praying inside the belly of the great fish. On the gold coin, Jonah is depicted centrally with outstretched arms.
