Krugerrand 1/4 oz Gold 2019 Proof Privy Mark - D Day
The 2019 1/4 oz Gold Krugerrand Proof with a unique D-Day Privy Mark is a remarkable collectible coin, combining the rich history and prestige of the famous South African Krugerrand with the symbolism of one of the 20th century’s most significant events—the Allied landing in Normandy.
Krugerrand, the most renowned and sought-after investment coin worldwide, derives its name from a combination of “Kruger” and “rand”—the currency of South Africa. This coin has been minted continuously since 1967. Initially produced solely in a one-ounce weight, Krugerrands weighing 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 ounces of gold were introduced in 1980. The bullion coin is struck from 916 fine gold with a small addition of copper (8.333%), making it more scratch-resistant and giving it a distinctive color.
The South African Mint is the official mint of the Republic of South Africa, headquartered in Centurion, Gauteng Province, near Pretoria. It produces coins for the South African Reserve Bank and is led by A. M. Mvinjelwa.
The obverse features a portrait of President Paul Kruger, with the inscriptions “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA” above it.
The reverse depicts a springbok antelope, a symbol of South Africa. The year of minting appears on either side, and below, the text “Fyngoud 1oz fine gold” indicates the pure gold content.
