The set includes products referring to the sun and moon, which form the Whanau Marama, or family of light. The product is beaten on behalf of the New Zealand Post by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH.

The coins were struck from Au gold.9999, weighing 1/2 ounce, 30mm in diameter, in standard proof. This unique set was produced in a limited edition of only 150 pieces. The coins were placed in their original packaging.

Obverses the coins are decorated with the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown and include information about the date of issue, country of issue, weight and purity of bullion. The designer of the obverse was Ian Rank-Broadley.

Reverts depict the sun and moon and the inscriptions "WHANAU MARAMA - FAMILY OF LIGHT" and the face value of the currency. Dave Burke is responsible for the project.
