The kangaroo, is a unique animal that is a symbol of Australia. The name kangaroo was given by English settlers and comes from the Aboriginal word "gungurru", which the natives used to describe the grey kangaroo.
The obverse of the Australian Kangaroo gold coin depicts the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and the coin's denomination, designed by Jody Clark. The Rewersie depicts an adult kangaroo looking over its shoulder. A eucalyptus tree and grass trees can be seen in the background.
