The Perth Mint’s 125th Anniversary - Australia Five Sovereign Gold 2024 Gilded Proof Coin
Perth Mint 125th Anniversary - Five Australian Sovereigns gold-plated Gold 2024 Proof is a collector's item commemorating the 125th anniversary of the minting of the first sovereign at Perth Mint. This modern collector's piece reinterprets the famous scene of Saint George slaying the dragon.
The mint was established on June 20, 1899, during the height of the gold boom in Western Australia. Through the process of refining gold and minting 106 million sovereigns over the next three decades, it significantly contributed to the rapid economic development of this region of Australia.
This coin has been produced in proof standard (mirror finish) from 22-carat gold with a fineness of Au.9167, weighing an impressive 39.936 grams. The total mintage of this unique 2024 coin is only 150 pieces. Furthermore, it comes in an elegant packaging with a certificate of authenticity included.
The obverse features King Charles III of Great Britain, according to the design by Dan Thorne. It also includes the nominal value of the coin and the issuing country.
The reverse shows a naked warrior on a horse, wielding a sword over a dragon. The coin bears the inscription "AUSTRALIA", "2024" and the mint mark "P125". The reverse was designed by Jennifer McKenna.
