Britannia 1 oz Gold 2025
The Britannia gold bullion coin is a leading investment product that is well-known and appreciated by merchants from all over the world. The one-ounce Britannia is a coin that is minted from 9999 pure gold by the renowned European mint The Royal Mint. Known for many years, Britannia has been enriched with new, innovative security features since 2021.
The introduced security features are:
• Radiant background, which was created using a picosecond laser. The effect of the laser used is visible when the coin is rotated.
• Engraved security using an angular effect, where the image changes from a padlock to a trident.
• Use of the tincture technique (on the shield). The tincture technique consists of indicating heraldic colours using symbols – lines.
• Micro engraved inscription "DECUS ET TUTAMEN", which was made using specialist lasers and which is located above the head of the titular Britannia.
It is also worth mentioning that Britannia is the first European investment coin, which was introduced into circulation in 1987. The first copies, which were produced in the years 1987 - 2012, were minted from 22-carat gold with an admixture of other metals. From 1987 to 1989, Britannias were strengthened with a small admixture of copper, thanks to which the coins were more resistant to scratches and also distinguished by their specific colour. From 1989 to 2012, copper was replaced with silver, which, similarly to copper, was intended to strengthen the coin and give it a unique colour. Since 2012, Britannia has been minted exclusively in 24-karat gold.
Obverse depicts King Charles III of Great Britain, designed by Martin Jennings.
