The 100-hryvnia banknote honors Taras Shevchenko, one of Ukraine's greatest poets, artists, and national activists. The 142 x 75 mm banknote symbolizes Ukrainian culture, literature, and the struggle for freedom.
On the front of the banknote is a portrait of Taras Shevchenko (1814–1861), a creator whose poetry and paintings had a fundamental influence on the development of Ukrainian national identity. His life and work are symbols of resistance against oppression and the quest for Ukraine’s freedom and independence.
On the back of the banknote is an image of a woman in traditional Ukrainian attire, symbolizing the beauty, tradition, and strength of the Ukrainian people. The background also features part of the landscape associated with Shevchenko’s homeland.
To protect against counterfeiting, the 100-hryvnia banknote in series 2, 3, and 4 features the following security elements:
Watermark with the image of Taras Shevchenko and the digital denomination "₴100," visible when held up to the light.
Security thread, visible in the light, with the microtext “₴100.”
Tilt effect – the denomination "100" changes color depending on the viewing angle.
Optically variable ink – selected elements change from purple to green.
Elements detectable by touch, including Shevchenko's portrait, the denomination, and markings for the visually impaired.
Differences between series:
- Series 2 features classic security elements and simple color scheme.
