New Zealand Mint
History of creation
The New Zealand Mint is a privately-owned company based in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the only private mint in the country that not only buys precious metals to produce bullion and collector coins, but also trades bullion.
Interestingly, it is not responsible for minting circulating coins. The production of banknotes and coins of the New Zealand dollar is handled by the British Royal Mint and the Royal Canadian Mint. The Royal Mint is responsible for minting $1 and $2 coins. The 10-cent, 20-cent and 50-cent coins, on the other hand, are minted in Canada. Over the years, the services of Australia's Royal Australian Mint, Norway's Norwegian Mint and South Africa's South African Mint Company have also been used, but never the New Zealand Mint.
New Zealand Mint mints bullion and collector coins both for its own sales and on behalf of many Pacific Rim countries - including m. in. Fiji, Cook Islands, Niue or Tuvalu. For this reason, among others, it is often referred to as the "mint of the South Pacific".
Over the years, it has managed to develop an extremely strong position and reputation, which provides it with numerous loyal individual and institutional customers.
New Zealand Mint has been minting collector coins, which are legal tender, as well as gold bars and medallions, for more than five decades.
Curiosity
New Zealand Mint is renowned for its high quality and excellent design as evidenced by a number of awards it has won. Interestingly, the New Zealand Mint is the only New Zealand precious metals mint and also one of the first mints in the world to adopt a gold coin purity standard .9999. The coins minted by it will thus meet the expectations of the most demanding customers.
Production volume
The New Zealand Mint is engaged in the production of bullion and collector coins only, hence the scale of its operations is correspondingly smaller than that of the mints that are also engaged in the production of circulation coins. However, this does not change the fact that each year tens of thousands of coins signed by New Zealand Mint enter circulation. Most coins on offer are produced in mintages ranging from just a few hundred to 10,000 pieces.
Most popular products
The hallmarks of the New Zealand Mint are undoubtedly the highest quality workmanship and unique designs. Described by many as a leader in innovative gold and silver collector coins.
With investors in mind, the mint has prepared a wide range of sterling silver products .999 and gold sample .9999. Investors interested in buying collector coins can also have no reason to complain. The New Zealand Mint is fond of pop culture-inspired numismatics and boasts numerous collections issued under license from a number of global brands - m. in.: Disney, Lucasfilms, Warner Bros or Star Trek.
Thanks to partnerships with giants of world cinema, New Zealand Mint's offer includes coins commemorating such productions as: "Harry Potter", "Lord of the Rings" , "Star Wars", "Game of Thrones", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "The Lion King", "Pinocchio", "Bambi" or "Mickey Mouse".
