The coin is struck in pure Ag.999 silver, weighing 1 troy ounce and with a diameter of 40 mm, by BH Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH, commissioned by the New Zealand Post.

Furthermore, the product has a limited edition of only 750 pieces. Importantly, each piece is supplied in an exclusive case.

The Averse of the coin is decorated with the likeness of King Charles III. The obverse features information on the date of issue, country of issue, weight and purity of the bullion. The designer of the obverse was Stephen J. Fuller

Rewers depict coloured forms of taniwha, or mythical creatures from the Maori tradition that may inhabit caves. The reverse also bears the inscription 'TANIHWA'. The reverse was designed by Dave Burke, Tauranga.
