Discover Poland - Central Industrial District 5 PLN 2017
Discover Poland - Central Industrial District (COP) 5 zł 2017 is a coin from the "Discover Poland" series, commemorating the establishment of the Central Industrial District (COP). This was a key economic project of the Second Polish Republic, implemented between 1936 and 1939, aimed at developing heavy industry and strengthening the country's defense potential. The COP covered central and southeastern areas of Poland, playing a vital role in modernizing the economy and creating new jobs.
The coin was minted in 2017: its ring is made of cupronickel, and its core is aluminum-bronze nickel, with a weight of 6.54 grams and a diameter of 24 mm. A limited mintage of up to 1,200,000 pieces makes this coin an attractive collectible item.
The obverse of the coin features the inscription "RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA" ("REPUBLIC OF POLAND") and "5 ZŁ" in a semicircle. At the bottom, there is an image of an eagle – the national emblem of Poland – along with the issue year "2017".
The reverse depicts a schematic image of industrial buildings characteristic of the Central Industrial District, along with the inscription "CENTRALNY OKRĘG PRZEMYSŁOWY" ("CENTRAL INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT"). The design of the coin was created by Dobrochna Surajewska, whose composition emphasizes both the historical and economic significance of the COP.
