Banknote 50 Great British Pound - King Charles III (50 pound / 50 GBP) Circulated
The polymer £50 British banknote featuring King Charles III was introduced into circulation by the Bank of England. It is the fourth polymer banknote in the series, continuing the modernization of British currency, enhancing its durability, and incorporating advanced anti-counterfeiting features.
Obverse of the banknote: The front of the banknote features a portrait of King Charles III, symbolizing the continuity of the British monarchy. Around the portrait, the text "Bank of England" and the denomination "£50" are displayed.
Reverse of the banknote: The reverse of the banknote features Alan Turing, a pioneer in modern computing and cryptography. His work during World War II on breaking the Enigma code had a significant impact on the outcome of the war. The banknote also includes fragments of his 1936 paper "On Computable Numbers", technical drawings of the Bombe machine, and binary code representing his birth date – June 23, 1912. His famous quote from 1949: "This is only a foretaste of what is to come and only the shadow of what is going to be" is also included.
Security features:
The £50 note contains many advanced security features designed to prevent counterfeiting and to easily confirm authenticity:
Hologram image change: Tilting the banknote back and forth causes the words to shift between "Fifty" and "Pounds".
Two gold foil squares: On the front of the banknote, the images in two gold squares change between "50" and the "£" symbol when tilted.
Transparent window: On the front, the foil over the main window appears gold and green, while on the back, it is silver. There is also a smaller window in the lower corner of the note.
Red foil: On the reverse side of the note, red foil with the letters "AT" is positioned behind the silver crown on the obverse.
Monarch’s portrait in the transparent window: The main transparent window includes a portrait of King Charles III, with "£50 Bank of England" inscribed around the edge.
Silver foil with a crown: On the front side, above the main window, a three-dimensional coronation crown in silver foil is visible.
Polymer and raised print: The note is printed on durable, flexible polymer, and its surface features raised print, such as on the words "Bank of England" and in the lower-right corner.
Print quality: The lines and colors on the note are sharp, without smudges or blurred edges. Using a magnifying glass, microtext displaying the note's value can be seen below the portrait of the monarch.
UV number: Under ultraviolet light, the number "50" appears in bright red and green on the front of the note against a darker background.
